Last month, federal court judge Griesa upheld the validity of New York City’s ordinance which bans coupon redemption and other price discounting promotions leveraged by the tobacco industry. The plaintiffs (National Association of Tobacco Outlets, New York Association of Convenience Stores, and other industry members) had until July 18th to appeal the decision. The deadline has since passed without any futher action from the tobacco industry indicating that they have opted not to pursue further legal action against NYC in this matter.
