Two great examples here – one showing a common youth-friendly character placed near a tobacco display, which is at eye-level and within reach of youth. It even looks like a candy display!  Isn’t the other ironic?  This sign at a Circle K invites CVS customers to buy tobacco products at their store. We applaud CVS for the decision to stop selling tobacco products and wish more stores would do the same. Tsk, tsk, Circle K!

We asked our audience to submit photos of tobacco industry marketing at the point of sale, and were impressed by the breadth and creativity of the photos submitted. Beyond just the contest, we hope these photos will be used to continue POS advocacy work.

Out of a record 92 image submissions, winners have been chosen in 8 categories of tobacco industry activities at the point of sale.

  1. Greatest Youth Appeal
  2. E-Cigarettes
  3. Stores near Schools
  4. Best Map or Infographic
  5. Funniest/Most Ironic
  6. Novel Products
  7. Flavored Little Cigar/Cigarillo
  8. Bonus Category! Best International

The above image includes our two Grand Prize Winners! The left image is also our Youth Appeal Winner, submitted by Brittany L. of Conway, AR. The right image is also a Funniest/Most Ironic, submitted by Cochise County Youth Health Coalition of Douglas, AZ.

You can find winners and honorable mentions for all categories as well as all 92 photo contest submissions along with other captivating images of POS tobacco industry tactics in our image gallery.
